More than 56 Pelican sailors and their families descended on East Fremantle Yacht Club (EFYC) for the annual Peli Power Up training camp, organised by the Pelican Sailing Association and hosted by EFYC.
The camp brings together both new and experienced sailors who have progressed through the Tackers program and are now sailing the two-person Pelican dinghy. With Pelican sailing taking place across Western Australia, the event welcomed families travelling from as far as Geraldton, Busselton and Esperance, making it a great opportunity to connect with other sailors from across the state.

Led by EFYC’s own Zoe Thomson, a former Pelican sailor, World Champion and Olympic sailor, the camp was supported by six assistant coaches, all former Pelican sailors, along with parent helpers who helped make the three days possible.
Throughout the camp, sailors worked on a range of skills to build their confidence and improve their sailing. From learning about sail trimming with Paul Eldrid from One Sails to developing their boat-handling skills, practising starts and gaining confidence as skippers, there was plenty to learn for sailors at every stage.
Of course, Peli Power Up was about more than just sailing. The camp also gave families the chance to spend time together, meet other sailing families and enjoy the social side of the Pelican community. There was even time for a beach adventure across the river, with the kids setting off in search of buried treasure!

Events like Peli Power Up play an important role in supporting young sailors as they continue their journey beyond Tackers, helping them develop their skills, confidence and friendships while enjoying everything sailing has to offer.
The Pelican Sailing Association would like to thank East Fremantle Yacht Club for hosting the camp, the City of Melville for allowing regional families to camp on the lawns, and the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation for its contribution towards coaching.
Congratulations to all the sailors, coaches, families and volunteers who made this year’s Peli Power Up such a great success!
