VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the East Fremantle Yacht Club. Without our amazing army of volunteers the Club wouldn’t be able to provide the on water activities, regattas and social events which our so valued by our members. We have a diverse range of volunteer roles available to suit all skill sets and interests and regularly invest in upskilling our volunteers. Read on to see how you can become a volunteer at East Fremantle Yacht Club or email us at reception@efyc.com.au for more information about what roles we currently have available.

On Water Activities

Race Officer

Race Officers are vital for centreboard and keelboat racing to occur safely. Each race needs at least one Race Officer for the race to go ahead. Training is required to become a Race Officer. To become a qualified Race Officer you must complete several free courses offered by Australian Sailing including:

Support Boats

Sailors are supported by at least two people on a Support Boat during racing and regattas. The Support Boat follows sailors during the course to ensure they are safe and to help out if assistance is required. In order to volunteer on a Support Boat you need to have a Recreational Skipper’s Ticket and preferably First Aid Certificate. If you plan to volunteer for junior sailing you will also require a current Working with Children (WWC) Check.

Start Tower

Start Tower volunteers are integral for a successful race. The Start Tower team conduct a range of simple tasks under the guidance of a qualified Race Officer including raising and lowering flags, recording start & finishing times & sounding the finishing horn. This is a fun role, conducted in pairs, which is good for those who have limited sailing volunteering experience.

Off Water Activities

The Club also offers a range of volunteer opportunities associated with off water activities including:

Depending on your experience and interests there is a Committee role to suit everyone. You can read more about the Executive Committee and Sub-Committees in the Club Rules

To enquire about becoming an Off Water Volunteer please email reception@efyc.com.au or come and say hello to our friendly Office staff during business hours.
