The 2025 edition of Sail Freo was one to remember for the East Fremantle Yacht Club (EFYC) youth team, as eleven of our talented young sailors competed across the O’pen Skiff and RS Aero fleets — bringing home podium finishes, new milestones, and plenty of smiles.
🏄♀️ About Sail Freo
Hosted annually by Fremantle Sailing Club, Sail Freo is one of Western Australia’s premier dinghy regattas. It attracts sailors of all ages and classes from across the state, offering two days of challenging racing and valuable experience in varied wind and wave conditions.
For our EFYC youth sailors, it’s not just a competition — it’s a chance to test their skills, gain confidence, and connect with the wider sailing community.

Alby, Lucy, Kelsey, Arnaud, and Charlie all experienced their first-ever Sail Freo
The RS Aero fleet made its debut appearance at the regatta
Moments like these highlight how far our youth sailors have come — and how bright their future looks.
🌬️ Learning, Teamwork, and Growth

Beyond the results, Sail Freo offered an invaluable opportunity for learning and growth. The challenging Fremantle conditions pushed sailors to adapt, communicate, and stay focused — all while supporting each other on and off the water.
The camaraderie among the EFYC team was a standout feature, with parents, coaches, and fellow sailors cheering each other on throughout the weekend. It’s this strong sense of community that makes youth sailing at EFYC so rewarding.
A huge thank you goes to WA Open Skiff Sailing for providing on-water coaching and regatta support, ensuring our sailors made the most of their experience.
