It was a fantastic morning on the river for Discover Sailing Day at East Fremantle Yacht Club, with more than 100 people coming down to the club last Sunday to get out on the water and give sailing and paddling a go.
There was something for everyone, with visitors able to try dinghies, keelboats, windsurfingand dragon boats throughout the morning. For many people, it was their first time stepping onto a boat, getting behind a sail or experiencing the Swan River from the water.
The morning started with a few clouds and uncertain weather, but thankfully it cleared up and we ended up with a beautiful day for getting out on the river. The club was buzzing from early on, with plenty of families, kids and adults enjoying the activities and taking the opportunity to try something new.
Our sailing team and volunteers were kept busy helping people get on the water, answering questions and showing visitors what sailing at EFYC is all about. From getting a feel for a dinghy to heading out on a keelboat, there were plenty of opportunities to experience different sides of boating in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
And, of course, no EFYC morning is complete without a sausage sizzle! With the BBQ ready to go, everyone could grab something to eat and enjoy the atmosphere around the club between activities.
Discover Sailing Day is all about making boating accessible and giving people the chance to experience it without needing any previous sailing experience. It was great to see so many new faces at the club, with more than 100 people joining us throughout the morning.
A huge thank you to all of our volunteers who gave up their time and shared their skills to help make the event happen. From getting the boats and activities ready, to helping people on and off the water and making sure everyone had a great experience, your time, knowledge and enthusiasm made a big difference. Events like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of our volunteers.
