Back in 2018, a seven-year-old Billie first stepped onto the water at East Fremantle Yacht Club as part of our Tackers program. Little did anyone know, that first sail would mark the beginning of an incredible journey that now sees her selected to represent Australia at the 2025 O’pen Skiff World Championships in Nishinomiya, Japan this July.
After completing Tackers and progressing through Green Fleet, Billie’s racing debut came in the 2021–22 season. Despite a slow start and some early hesitation, she quickly found her groove — finishing her first season as Club Champion. Since then, her results have only improved, with consistent podium finishes and multiple EFYC trophies under her belt, including Most Consistent and Short Course Winner.
On the National Stage
Billie’s first big competitive milestone came at the WA State Championships, where she placed 6th in the Silver Fleet. The following season, she finished a very close 2nd — a sign of what was to come. In 2023, Billie claimed the Australian Silver Fleet title at South of Perth Yacht Club, a huge achievement that marked her transition into Gold Fleet.
Her upward trajectory continued in 2024 and 2025, with a 3rd place finish (1st girl) at the WA State Championships, and an outstanding 4th overall (3rd Australian) and 2nd girl at the 2025 Australian Championships held in Mordialloc, Victoria.
World Championship Bound
Billie’s stellar performances have earned her a place on Team Australia for the O’pen Skiff World Championships, taking place at the Windward Ocean Club in Japan from 16–23 July 2025. She’ll be joined by fellow EFYC junior sailors Harriet and Isabelle, who are also heading to Japan to compete.
Giving Back & Growing
Beyond racing, Billie has been a committed volunteer at EFYC, regularly assisting with Discover Sailing Days, Tackers courses, and Green Fleet training. This year, she officially stepped into the role of Assistant Instructor, continuing to inspire and guide the next wave of young sailors.
Powered by Club Support
Billie’s journey has been made possible thanks to the support of the EFYC 100 Club, which has backed her performance coaching since 2022 with Coach Lachlan Putt, as well as assisting with regatta costs and ongoing training. She’s also received wonderful encouragement from the senior centreboard sailing community, particularly the RS Aero and Sharpie fleets.
To help the team stay race-ready ahead of Worlds, the Club extended the sailing season with additional on-water sessions focused on maintaining fitness and refining light-wind technique.
We’re So Proud!
Billie’s story is a shining example of what can happen when talent, hard work, and community support come together. From first sail to the world stage, she continues to make EFYC proud — and we can’t wait to cheer her (and Harriet and Isabelle!) on as they represent Australia in Japan.
Go Team EFYC! 💙
