A Weekend to Remember: RS Aero WA State Championship 2024

The 3rd RS Aero Western Australia State Championship took place at East Fremantle Yacht Club on 30 November and 1 December 2024, and what a weekend it was!

The RS Aero fleet completed an impressive 8 races over 2 days, with 5 races on Saturday and 3 on Sunday. The event was both exhausting and exhilarating, offering sailors a fun, rewarding, and challenging experience.

Challenging Conditions and Close Racing

Light, shifty, and tricky conditions created an exciting and closely contested championship. Congratulations to Peter Trott from Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club, who convincingly defended his title, winning the championship for the second consecutive year!

EFYC’s very own Jordy Bellegarde sailed brilliantly, claiming second place and the youth male trophy. Nat Cull, also from MOFSC, secured third place, while Billie McCracken showcased exceptional skill to finish in 6th place and take home the youth female trophy. Well done to all competitors!

A special mention to Glenn Fairey from Nedlands Yacht Club, who joined the fleet on Solitude—thank you, Tim Putt, for making it possible.

RS Aero Fleet Growth in WA

It was thrilling to see the RS Aero fleet’s remarkable growth, expanding from just 2 boats in WA three years ago to 15 today, with 8 boats now based at EFYC. It was especially exciting to see Jordy and Billie, both formerly sailing Open Skiffs, performing exceptionally well.

Acknowledgements and Thanks

A huge thank you to David Quinn for his incredible effort in organising the event and to the many volunteers who made the weekend a success, including Helen Suriano, Margaret Shiner, and Andrew Cliff. This event would not have been possible without your dedication.

We also extend our gratitude to the photographers who captured the action, especially Marnie Pascoe from Kraken Images, and our drone videographer, Ethan Buzza from Droneify.

Thank you to everyone involved for making this championship an unforgettable event. We can’t wait to see what the RS Aero fleet achieves next!
