The 2026/27 sailing season is officially underway at East Fremantle Yacht Club, with a full weekend of sailing and celebrations kicking off the new season.
The Opening Day weekend started on Saturday, 26 September, with our centreboard sailors back on the water for racing. Then on Sunday, 27 September, we officially celebrated the start of the season with our Fiesta on the Water themed Opening Day.
Centreboard Sailing Gets the Weekend Started
Saturday saw our centreboard sailors back out on the Swan River and getting into the first racing of the new sailing season.
It was great to see the fleet back on the water and getting the season underway before Sunday’s Opening Day celebrations.
Fiesta on the Water
Sunday was all about celebrating the start of another sailing season at EFYC, with the river full of boats, colour and plenty of action.
Our keelboats were out racing throughout the day, while the traditional Sail Past brought the Fiesta on the Water theme to life. Boats made their way past the club, with plenty of colour and personality on display as sailors officially welcomed the new season.
Our VIP guests also had the chance to get out on the water and experience the action from the boats, giving them a great view of the racing and Sail Past.
Back at the club, our DJ kept the atmosphere going throughout the afternoon as members, families, sailors and guests enjoyed the Opening Day celebrations.
Officially Kicking Off the Season
Opening Day is always a special day on the EFYC calendar. It brings together different parts of our sailing community and marks the beginning of another season of racing, sailing and events on the Swan River.
The official formalities included a welcome from the Commodore Steve McWhirter and the traditional firing of the cannon, with Kevin Tapper doing the honours to officially help get the new sailing season underway.
The day also included the Sail Past and presentations, recognising the people involved in our club and sailing community.
A big thank you to all the volunteers, race officials, sailors, boat owners, members and everyone who helped make the Opening Day weekend happen. We also appreciate everyone who came along to celebrate with us.
We’re looking forward to a great 2026/27 season, with plenty more sailing, racing, events and activities on the water.
